When I say "Short Stories" you probably think of those books for 8-year-old, with a million tiny stories and a moral of the story at the end, such as Jack and the Beanstalk and The Boy Who Cried "Wolf". But people think that when you are older you can't read short stories and that you have to read novels. But that's not necessarily true. In fact, sometimes short stories are better than long novels. So here is a list of the pros and cons of writing a short story
The Pros
Short Stories are really quick to read; usually around 5-15 minutes on average. So if you want to read something when you have a bit of free time, a short story would be good.
Short stories USUALLY have more attention-to-detail and stronger words, as the writers don't focus on making the story longer. Also, it's A LOT less of a pain when editing (I learned this personally when editing Change and The Envelope, but then The Good and Bad Parts of Change) although, not every short story has this.
Writing short stories is MUCH easier. I would suggest beginner writers to write short stories and gradually grow your word count--don't start off with a long book. You'll eventually get bored and think that writing is boring, which it isn't.
Readers like when they get that feeling that you read (and finished) a good story.
Short stories are a full story. They have a start, middle, and end. Short stories are simple.
The Cons
Short stories are sometimes too simple. They sometimes just don't have the charm that stories should.
Short stories can sometimes just not come together. For example, if you have a cap on the amount of words, then it becomes hard to write.
I hope you guys all know the pros and cons of short stories and maybe changed your mind after reading this. By the way, this is my first post on From Ayaan's Ink Blog, so please excuse me if I made any mistakes.
